Last Friday I wanted to go out for dinner, but not really to a restaurant. When I was cycling home from work I remembered this little cafe near Tollcross called
had a poster up saying they played classic films on Friday night and served food to accompany them. I ducked in and Hitchcock's Spellbound was playing, so we went along.
It was £15 each, wine was b.y.o.b. (corkage £2 per bottle), and they pause the film in the middle so you can order tea and cake. The sofas were incredibly comfortable too. It made quite a nice change from the usual overpriced multiplex experience, and was cheaper than going for dinner and to the cinema separately.
They also sell individual chocolates, which I've been wishing coffee shops would do for aaaages. The white chocolate-almond biscuits are delicious too.
They are happy to take recommendations (I really want to see Funny Face but I didn't manage to remember at the time). June's schedule is already up
, but here it is anyway:
June 3: Guess Who's Coming To Dinner
June 10: The Apartment
June 17: Sabrina
June 24: Arsenic and Old Lace
It's quite a nice night out if you want to do something different and have to get to bed reasonably early. Definitely go if you're bored of Cineworld and fancy something different.
